Cauliflower help

Hi I am new to the allotment and have been thinking of what I can grow so Cauliflower what type is fast growing and easy to start with?


Also growing tips when to plant and as much as possible please

my best advice is to wander round the garden centre and check the seed packets for what you fancy. the backs of the packet will give you all the advice you need as to when to sow, plant out and harvest etc

I grew a cauli called Clapton last year. It is clubroot resistant and I have pockets of clubroot areas in my lottie so I thought I wouldn't take any chances. Problem is they are an F1 hybrid so all seem to mature on the same day.
Cauliflower cheese for brekkie, lunch, dinner and supper can get a bit boring after a while. Thank heaven for freezers!

We grow a variety called Snowball A.

Admittedly we didn't get a good crop last year but that is probably down to a number of things we did wrong.
But, it is very quick growing and quick to mature. It also germinates very quickly too. The seed we sowed for this year germinated in just 3 days.

I grow a variety called Siria. Like Snadger, I think that this is a F1 hybrid and matures more or less at the same time. However, it does cover the curds with leaves to protect their white colour - saves checking and bending leaves over.

I grew Igloo last year. It's a baby cauli, and was pretty easy (no special treatment, except trying to plant in a firm bed). Sow March - April indoors, plant out April - June about 6 inches apart, and eat July and August. Also freezes well apparently, though I didn't grow enough to need to! Sow successionally for longer harvest period.

i just don't have any luck with cauli, broccoli and cabbages grew fine along with kohl rabi, but caulis just didn't do it! i'll keep trying though, might try some of the suggestions mentioned
