2026 compost heap

Last years won't be ready yet as I no longer turn it as often as I should, it could be old age or I couldn't find a round tuit!!
Bin moved to new location ready for all the stems from last years perenials that I left over winter for bugs and ladybirds to hibernate in, they go in the bottom for a layer of brown stuff before the first grass clippings of the year go in, shredded paper is used as well as brown stuff is in short supply during the summer months, it works, just takes an extra year to break down properly.

I need to investigate my front two. Not as fast as the back ones.

I won't have much homemade compost this year, certainly not enough for all my beds. I am terrible at turning it, so my heaps are cold and slow. I really should do better.

I rarely turn my compost , I usually just shove a pipe into the heap at various points and different depths and wiggle it about to allow air into the material, then occasionally drop in some chicken pellets and water to add nitrogen, which hopefully creates heat

I think my problem is made worse by so much grass to other stuff ratio, last year due to the drought very little grass went in and it looks so much better, so this year less of the green stuff I think.

OH put too many prunings and leaves in these ones. The others get alot of grass and kitchen waste and cardboard.
I need to balance between them all.
