When you talk about using manure. What things benefit from it and what doesn't?

Just planted over 80_onions in a 4x2•5 ft. raised bed, to which I had just added dolomite lime and blood fish and bone, may be slightly against normal practice but had the onions and that was in he only place i had the space, had added the lime to the bed as there was a bit of moss growing in it , then decided to use the space for planting onion sets, added the B.F.B. as it had been quite a time since the bed had been fed, of course I will let you know if I get a good crop, otherwise
CG you wanted to know what crops benefit from having manure added, when I could obtain manure I preferred getting it in the autumn when I spread it over bare ground but avoided areas where I was going to grow root veg such as carrots, parsnips, beetroot and turnip, though other leafy brassica benefit from having manure added to the soil, nowadays its not recommended to use it with potatoes but when I was younger manure was always used in the bottom of a trench, covered with soil then the tatties set on top of that, then covered with the remaining soil, otherwise you should never use fresh manure when planting any veg. Courgette, marrow and cucumber and, as I have said leafy brassica all benefit from manure, for the cabbage etc. spread the manure over the soil and how it in, I also did the same for the onions, for the courgette, marrow and cucumber I usually dug a trench and filled it with manure then a covering of about 4inches of soil, but remember it must be well aged manure, nowadays I get just as good results using garden compost, you dont need manure for peas or beans, but they do benefit from growing above a trench of garden compost or kitchen waste which has beeen buried over the winter
