Over the last few days I've transferred chitted broadies & slightly over-chitted Pepper Cubanelle (we'll just have to see if they come) into compost. The Summer PSB were way over-chitted so I threw those out & sowed some fresh straight into compost & also sowed some Cabbage Offenham too. Parsnip seed have been put to chit as well.

Checked under the bags of the Pepper seeds I transferred to compost on 03 March this morning only 1 of 4 showing above the surface - then spotted a teeny little slug that must have hitchhiked in on one of the pots - good job I only really want 1 plant but
Still no sign of my chitting Parsnip seed I started on 03 March either - they have plumped up but no shoots yet so I've officially entered the annual Parsnip paranoia phase of 2026 (will they sprout, should I order more seed, perhaps I'll wait a bit longer etc. etc.)

Put to chit: Lettuce Analena, Lettuce Calalogna & Perpetual Spinach.
I've taken to chitting Lettuce even though they're only small seed as they're my nemisis (supposedly 'easy' to grow but I always have germination issues - too wet/too dry/too deep idk).Location: SE Wales about 1250ft up

Pricked out three pots worth of the chitted lettuce seeds. Those that survice will go into the garden when they are big enough to handle.
If the seeds really need light to germinate, how do they do it when sown 1/2" deep? This way, they showed roots during the second day.

Sowed radish, spring onion and carrot yesterday in a SFG raised bed - this morning there was a frost. Typical. The carrot is more hope than expectation as my soil is quite heavy. Also Crown prince and Uchiki Kuri squash.Last edited by mothhawk; 29-03-2026, 06:03 AM.Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
