Yesterday I planted five runner beans round the teepee with last years runner bean. I noticed in the other bed there’s a last years runner bean coming up so I need to put a teepee over there & plant more beans there, they’re getting a bit long,2ft long… I’ve hurt my back & it’s difficult to bend so I’ll probably just sow seeds today, more cucumbers, peas, beans & lettuce. I topped the bird feeders up earlier, they’re busy with the starling & sparrow families most of the day

Today I planted out the first Turks turban squash & covered it with a tunnel cloche so the snails know where it is,it’ll also help in the wind. I need some straw. Fed the potatoes & two of the cucumbers seaweed fertiliser. I did a snail hunt last night & found about twenty just on the patio plants, mainly marigolds & potato leaves. Pinched off all the garlic scapes & put them in the fridge for tomorrow

Put some sheep’s wool around some of the herbs to try and persuade the slugs they aren’t interested in gourmet food
So…now they are tucking into the French beans which had finally decided to grow
…we now need to re sow with sheep's wool around them as well as underneath them ( vole deterrent
) Not looking good for French beans for us so far this year

I love it when we find little self sown bonus plants! How excitingOriginally posted by Bren In Pots View PostYesterday I found what looks like butternut squash seedlings in my GH border I potted one of them up leaving the other to grow. They must have come from my dalek compost because I've no grown those for at least 10 years.

This morning I have potted up three chitted scarlet emperor runners after none of the others germinated. I'm also chitting my last pack of early xtra sweet sweetcorn. I have some of the same already but they're looking a bit ropey and I simply cannot run the risk of a sweetcorn shortage.Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens.
