  • Courgette v potato

I thought I'd show you just how the little 6" potato sprout stunted my courgette.

These two plants are about 2 feet apart, the one in the right hand pic had the sprout growing close. Both plants chitted, potted on, and planted out at the same time. The litle one is only now beginning to put on a growth spurt.

    Oh b***er!
I have lots of random potatoes sprouting up all over the place, I had better check what other plants might object to being amongst rogue spuds.
This year I have my potato bed next to my cougettes!
My potatoes were already looking like a disaster as they have barely grown and some haven't appeared at all, I guess that is due to all the dry weather.
I was planning on leaving a few rogue potato plants to make up for those that haven't appeared.
    Oh well.
I am definitely having one of those years!
    Thanks for sharing this mothhawk

Thats very interesting and worth noting mothhawk,I have peas growing close to leeks with a plastic barrier six inches deep between them but both seem to be a bit stunted growth wise, I did plant them close together to see how they would grow in close proximity to one another
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

That is quite a difference MH…
It’ll be interesting to compare how much they produce over the next few months.

I too tend to leave volunteer potatoes as they seem much more hardy against weather and disease.
I’ll have a double think about friendly and fo companion planting next year!

Always a few rogue spuds amongst my onions as onions follow spuds in my rotation system.

I've not done bad this year though as there's only about five spud plants but you always miss a few tiddly tubers!
          Are y'oroight booy?
