I've got about 4 foot by two foot of unused bed in the greenhouse this year because I've grown fewer tomatoes and cucumbers. The rest of the beds are now full of cucumbers. Any ideas on what I could start in it at this time of year?

Hmm, I don't go for punkins and herself doesn't go for marrows, not even when I stuff them with wonderful liver and onions. (Jack Sprat and all that...)
I've tried radishes and other brassicas in the greenhouse beds before and they'll always bolt because it's too warm.
Got a couple of spare courgette seedlings I'll put in though and some lettuce/salad leaf things. I've also got some chard seeds that I could try.
Might try a few radishes for seeds, That'd be fun!Location:- Rugby, Warwckshire on Limy clay (within sight of the Cement factory)

I've got the over wintered pepper plant in its pot on the floor between the beds. It's healthy so far but I'm not sure whether it'll do better than the 'new' ones in the other little greenhouse. That's an ongoing experimentOriginally posted by gardenhistory2 View Posti try peppers or other hot crop beans might be option.
jane it likely to hot in greenhouse for peas. not enough space
for corn, bit late for eggplant

You could try some potatoes as its almost time to plant for new potatoes at Christmas (usually suggested for July). I've tried doing this outside before and the plants always get blight or frosted and yields are appalling to zero, but in a greenhouse you may find they do better. The usual recommended variety is Charlotte.A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP. - Leonard Nimoy

Check your local garden centre as they're probably looking to flog plants off cheaply about now. You might pick up an aubergine, chillies, melon....
Probably not too late to sow a melon actually. Okra grow quickly from seed too if you like those. Are y'oroight booy?

We found a physalis plant at a garden centre last year. I didn't like the taste so a no go this year. Different type of melon as I doubt one plant will be that prolific? Tomatillos? Basil, it goes crazy and you'd have lots of pesto!

Basil is a good call actually. It's better to sow it in June, as in my eagerness to have some available I generally sow it earlier and find it's flowering in late July!Originally posted by smallblueplanet View PostWe found a physalis plant at a garden centre last year. I grow Emir melons. I've got 4 plants in the polytunnel and usually get 2 decent fruit per plant, sometimes 3Last edited by Vince G; 08-06-2025, 06:04 PM.Are y'oroight booy?
