  • Curing Cut Seed Potatoes

    Hi Folks,

I have cut up my chitted seed potatoes for the first time and now have them curing.
How long should I leave them to cure for, is it until the cut sides are completely dry to the touch or do they develop a noticable "skin" when ready?

    Thanks all

On the occasions when I have cut seed potatoes in half I have just planted them straight away, and had no problems. I didn't know you are supposed to cure them

I had no idea about curing either…but it does make sense to create a ‘barrier’

Be interesting to see if you notice a difference peanut?

Yes it will be. It's supposed to reduce the risk of them rotting.

I’ve just been goooogling this and can see why you asked!
            Three different responses….plus Pen’s

            Plant straight away
            2-3 days
            3-5 days
            2-6 weeks

            Confusing or what?

I've cut large potatoes leaving them stood on a piece of kitchen roll then planting them the next day. My thinking was it would help dry both cut ends.

Like Penellype when I halved potatoes I halved planted straight away, though its not a thing I have needed to do for a long time as I rarely buy pre bagged seed potatoes
