The leaves definitely look like chicory, so I would say Snoop Puss' suggestion of puntarelle is probably correct.

I tried it this morning. Leaves flavourless like lettuce. Stalks hollow, nice crunch, very slight bitterness. Certainly not as bitter as normal chicory.
I certainly wouldn't buy or grow it. Chacun a son ...!
I must remember Lens. I can't keep up with these new fangled things! AI meant something you do with cows when I took a real interest in computers.
