  • Finally got my Nicola's in, decided to pop them into 4 bags, 3 bits in each and 1 larger bit in 2 Wickes' buckets.
Potted up 12 chitted swift sweetcorn, still waiting to see if the rest germinate.
    Chitting some ipomea seeds.
Still staring lovingly at my pots of stubbonly ungerminated lettuce seeds and willing them on and up!
Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Good soil, strong winds and 4 Giant Puffballs!

            • This morning I have accidently resown three loads of brassicas, so that was a good start, only noticed my error when I spotted a germinated romanesco supposedly sown an hour ealier!
Moved the newly germinated squash and courgettes off the heat mat and into the greenhouse, then back out again a few hours later as its scrorching in there!
I have now completely lost my dining table for the next few weeks as its covered in pots and unheated propagators.

              Happy days

              • Oh Peanut - we're living the same life you and I!

I had a day off from work on Monday & by the time I rose late & didn't open the blow-away until 11am I'd nearly cooked my broadies! The door's permanently open now this week. I've managed to get most stuff out of the house now but OH's asking that now I've emptied the bathroom, when will there be a chance of a free windowsill in the kitchen. I haven't told him yet that there are replacement sowings planned that will fill any gaps for the next few weeks lol.

                • We sure are! I think it is perfectly reasonable that a house becomes a greenhouse/potting shed until the end of May

                  • Its been really warm here, got in the car after shopping with mum at about 2pm & the temperature was 36 degrees,my blowaways get really hot like that,I didn’t put my plants in them today, better off indoors out the heat or in the shade somewhere…. This evening I cut some more of the grass edges (mowed lawn yesterday) weeded the strawberry bed & watered them. I should put some BFB down for them soon,I always remember things like that when it’s dark & then I forget by daylight,I need to write a list

                    • Today I have spent too much time watching my blue tits. They are such a lovely pair both are in and out of the box. Whilst its been so hot the female has been nipping from the box to the acer tree opposite for a bit of a cool down, then she flies to the rose bush to pick off a few aphids before going back into her box. The male brings her little caterpillers. It's so lovely.

I potted up my persimmon tree and potted on a couple of little straggly lavender plants which I wasn't sure would survive the winter.

Sowed more seeds. Need to get some pricking out done next!

                      • Sowed Gigantes bean seeds. Sowed a few more courgettes on the assumption that the first batch might have either got flooded, parched or just cooked in the greenhouse this week. Dug the non-germinated nasturtium seeds out of their pots and put them in the raised bed, just in case. Four came up and that's enough. Moved four tomato plants into their final enormous pots.
                        Watered things.

                        • Dug the raised beds and the greenhouse beds.
                          Pruned the buddleia.
Shredded all of my accumulated prunings.
Sowed another half gutter of peas.
Potted on my cucumbers and watermelons.

                          • Yesterday when I was putting my tomato plants in the blowaway I did a quick tally of how many I have of what variety. Earthed up some potatoes with last years lettuce trug compost. Put some last years potato compost in the lettuce trug with a bit of fresh compost at the top, planted lettuce,I’ve put the remainder lettuce seedlings in little pots using old potato compost,I’d sowed three seed per cell so needed to get them out, soaked them first, the roots untangle easier

                            • Cut the grass.

                              Baked a loaf of bread.

Took delivery of 5 more SWD traps and made up a mixture of a bottle of Aldi's cheapest red wine and cheap cider vinegar, then hung them around the Morello cherry tree. They catch a lot of fruit flies, but I'm not sure if they'll end up attracting lots more as well.

Separated one of the pots of Hippeastrum bulb/bulbils and put them in the No2 greenhouse bed. Two bulbs had been left in the greenhouse a bit too long at the end of 2023 and got knocked back by the cold. This seems to have made them stop flowering and start going all shallot-like. So instead of two flowering bulbs, (which had started as one), there are now 12, but non-flowering.

Not quite sure what I'm going to do with a dozen identical Hippeastrums (Hippeastra?) when they all get big enough to flower again.

                              • Planted the broadies. Put up the wigwams for beans/peas (being optimistic I'll have some worth planting). Bit of weeding. Lots of chatting
