  • Potted up my sprouted melon and squash seeds.

Pruned the Japanese quince, the loganberry, and one of the roses.

    • Weeding. The ground is rock hard as its so dry in areas. So strange for me this time of year (clay).
      Northern England.

      • Got the spuds in. Put a 2nd coat of paint on most of the bench (only the trellis bits left to do). Planted some strawberry plants a plot neighbour donated - but now have to reconsider where the parsnips I was planning to put there will go
Location: SE Wales about 1250ft up

        • Finally got my Caledonian rose main crop in, only 3 weeks later than last year, still have the Nicola to plant, but can't decide whether to bag or bed them...

          • Weeded , weeded and weeded some more….the same section of gravel driveway I fully weeded in February

But it is looking so much improved. But aren’t most things in the sunshine?!

Many years ago I sprinkled some evening primrose seeds into one of the borders. For the past few years they have reappeared in the same spot. This year they are absolutely everywhere in the driveway so we’ve been transplanting them all over the place. Feeling very chuffed with this as I love the scent.

            • Watered all the pots except blueberries, will do those tomorrow. I can't remember ever watering so much at this time of year!
Ferried lots of prunings from one end to the other ready for shredding.
Repotted some little gooseberry plants I took from prunings in winter 23 I think.
              Moved the overwintered fuschias outside.
Happy to report that my French tarragon and lemon verbena survived the cold winter. Hoorah!

              • I was thinking about water storage today peanut…and mulching…
I’m pretty confident that we’ll have more rain between now and the peak of summer , but I really feel we need to collect as much as possible in preparation…

                • Its not good is it Nicos. The farmers here are saying how worried they are about crops if they don't get some good rain soon. The fields are cracked already.

                  • Peanut…the last couple of times I have passed through the Huntingdon area most of the fields were underwater…can’t even imagine what those farmers must be going through One extreme or the other in such close proximity.

Pricked out my outdoor tomato seedlings.
Potted up some sweet potato cuttings.

                      • This morning I have watered the blueberries with water from my underground rainwater tank, it's a full body workout! I use a bucket with a length of rope through the handles, drop that down into the tank, then using a long cane submerge the bucket to fill and then pull it up. I am knackered already doing that 8 times!

Nice one!…that’s what we use in our underground tank.
Which reminds me….I need to set up the pump for the water feature
