          • I tried it only once CG: '60 days' variety.

I had a quick look back at my notes & I sowed on 01 Aug 23, potted-on 03 Sep, planted 24 Sep. They started to bolt by 01 Oct (lady writing for KG mag had the same happen to hers) so we didn't try again.

I remember reading somewhere they don't like it hot, so I was going to try an earlier sowing around May time or wait until later in Aug/Sep. I've got a feeling it was Alys Fowler who did the article & I'm sure she said something about waiting for the hottest part of summer to pass so it might be a bit soon with the weather we've been having.

            • As none of my Lettuce AYR have deigned to sprout - again - I bit the bullet & decided to throw out the seed packet. In hunting through the stash for the lazy, disagreeable seed, I found a Lettuce 'Catalogna' packet which I thought I didn't have any more of when I did my little sowing last week So they got sown today.

Keeping a moody eye on my Garlic Chive & Pansy sowings too as they haven't popped up yet - but I wonder if it may have been a bit warm for them? I've moved them into the bathroom where it's cooler to see if that gives them a nudge.

                • What do peeps think, is it too late for a second sowing of dwarf (or climbing) French beans?

                  • Gosh…that’s getting pretty late in the season SBP!
If you are up for the challenge…I’d probably go with the dwarf beans and use cloches particularly over night as it’s the night time temperatures I’d be concerned about.
You never know…we might end up with an Indian summer and then you’ll be glad to tried.
                    I’d take the risk…why not!

                      • Never thought about the night time temps Nicos, I think that might do for them, we've already had a low overnight temp - weather forecast said 9C but not sure if quite that cold, but was a bit chilly.
I think the space will go to salads - is it too late for pak choi? Lol.
