    So they both get flowers, but only the female plants get seed heads - is that right? Are the babies not viable then, is that why you don't want them?

      Yes, only the girlies produce the berries. The reason you don't want them is, apart from being slightly less productive as plants, the berries drop all over the bed and without removal the bed will soon become overcrowded.
