    Yes, as above ... chillies need a constant temperature of about 18C to germinate. A December windowsill just won't do

      18 is the minimum that you should be germinating chillies at, preferably they should be above 21. We germinate all ours at around 23 and under lights as they come through about a week earlier this way, which is handy as the germination room tends to get rather full during the spring months.
      Bear in mind the one thing any type of chilli hates is 'cold roots', and that means cold, wet soil next to the kitchen window!

      With regards to disturbing seeds, this shouldn't be a problem providing you don't break the root, and is why we always cover with vermiculite instead of soil as it simply scapes back - just try and avoid touching the seeds. We check trays every day under a magnifying glass, and have seen no effects to the germination % - usually aroun 97%+, but then remember we are providing optimal conditions.
