  • Potato scab.

I have had this on my second earlies and now I'm starting to see it on my maincrops. How many of you are suffering with this on your potatoes?

I always get a little scab on my potatoes, some years it is worse than others. I just make sure that I use the worst affected potatoes first as if they have bad scab they can rot in store, other than that I simply cut it off before cooking.

I thought I had scab on my potatoes but when I asked one of the more experienced gardeners at the allotments she reckoned it was damage caused by ants.
I can quite believe it because there were a lot of ants in the 30 litre pot I had grown the potatoes in - Sarpo Mira.

Just an update on my Sarpo Mira in pots. I emptied out another pot yesterday - no ants and perfect spuds. As they were growing in line with the scabby looking ones I reckon my friend was correct.
