  • Brassica sowing timing

    Hey folks.

I’ve sowed my broad beans (Sutton) today direct into one of my raised beds. Along with some pea and mange your seedlings.

I plan to follow this bed up with brassicas for autumn/winter.

when would you start to sow this so that they are ready to go into the ground in time for autumn?

    Many thanks,

I would sow them in pots about 6 weeks before you think the ground will be free and ready. So try to work out when you think the broad beans and peas will be finished and cleared, and work back from that.

I do something similar with my purple sprouting, which goes in after I clear my onions. I usually sow those around the beginning of July, and by mid August the onions are all out and the soil is clear to plant them.
