  • What would take a munch like this out of a squash?

I’ve just found one of my 2 baby boo squashes with a bite out of it? Any ideas? Also if I cut off a significant section is it cookable?

Slugs do that kind of damage.
They start when the fruit is young and the skin is still soft.

Could be mouse or rat, cutting the bit off & washing will be fine to cook.

I see a significant amount of slime in the picture, so I'd be inclined to say slugs or snails.
I doubt it's rodents, as rodent tooth marks would be a lot more apparent.

I have a winter squash that survived with a scar on it after a slug attack a couple of months ago. A few slug pellets revealed a dead slug that would have been six inches long at full pelt.

Thanks all, it was washed and the eaten bit cut off and we had it in a butternut squash and pesto butter bean and kale salad today for lunch!
