  • Celery planting

    hello

I've got a celery that I've got growing from a stub of shop-bought celery.

What does celery like to grow in?
Is it perennial or will it die off at the end of the year?

I grew trench celery from seed and it likes a lot of food and a lot of water, I treated it as an annual and lifted the root, never tried your method.

You can keep it sat with its roots in a jar of water indoors on a window sill and snip off as you want or you can plant it outside and let it grow a bit more. It's an annual really and dies off in winter.

Yes, I didn't expect it to work, but it did (albeit it's not very tall yet).

problem is that we don't like celery (except as an ingredient in certain dishes when very cooked), so I don't want a lot of it, so I've never bothered with seeds and doing it properly.

        hey ho.

        As Ogden Nash observed
        "Celery, raw
        Develops the jaw
        But celery, stewed
        is more quietly chewed"

I have some plants that were growing on my plot when I took it on. I got it identified on I-spot.
It is self seeding readily so I will have a go at saving some seed or just transplant some in the spring.
