  • Florence fennel.

I had some seed so I sowed some in modules.
    Transplanted earlier in the year.
They came on well, large tops of fernny foliage.
Their bases have not bulbed proprerly yet.
The are more like a large spring onion.
Chopped fine in a salad excellent and crunchy.

    Will be doing them again.

Sow some more now. July is meant to be the best time for sowing Florence fennel (early sowings tend to bolt).

I put some in a couple of weeks ago.
They came up like chopper bike handle bars and have now followed on with there first pair of adult leaves.
It says earth them up like spuds so I put the seeds in the bottom of a trench with mounds either side so that I can just push the earth in.

I sowed some in August last year intending to eat them as baby veg, but they got ignored until spring, when I suddenly found I had some nice big bulbs.

I don’t think they like being transplanted, I start pretty much everything indoors except fennel, carrots and parsnips
I may be hungry but I sure ain’t weird
