Avacado pear growing in veg bed....

Hmm i've just found an escape avacado pear stone that has set root in my veggie bed. It's been hiding behind te runner beans and a cucumber and so survived my hoeing. Do you think it would be possible to pop him into a pot and keep it inside over the winter?

Don't see why not, it's worth a try anyway. If it's left outside over winter it'll probably snuff it anyway

After digging my home made compost into the veg bed at home, I was surprised to see how many tomato seedlings appeared, these were potted on and I could probably set up a stall now at the local farmers market!

Bear in mind that it will take in excess of 10 years before it fruits, if it survives that long. They are not easy to grow.

absolutely,

I grow these all the time, as pot plants, be sure to pinch out the top before it gets too tall , and you should get a nice bushy pot plant in time
although you may never get any fruits, they are nice looking, with broad droopy leaves.

You'll most definitely need to pot up and bring indoors during the worst of the winter months.

Will make a nice house plant if looked after - for many years.

Avocados like a LOT of sunshine & will take upwards of 7 years to bear fruit. I left a fantastic avo tree in Botswana which produced enormous, delicious avos - supermarket avos are pathetic in comparison. They also like iron so a nail knocked into the trunk every now & then is much appreciated by the tree.
