The mystery of spring onions

Forget to add I did sow spring onions this year in April on windowsill in modules and then just planted out, it is only now that I am really harvesting some nice ones, I didn't thin as stated earlier. Funny though the ones I grew at school look more like leeks (maybe the soil???) still up for the dec planting tho
