How interesting this is - I'll be taking all your advice for next year - I'll come back to this later, as although I actually have some ripe tommies this year, not all of the 6 varieties I have are ready.

I've got piccolo growing from supermarket toms and I agree. It doesn't seem to be an F1 in any discernable sense. When I was looking into this, I discovered that American growers treat them as open pollinated but there's one site here selling the seeds at 4 for 5 seeds - on the strength of them being F1 presumably. Take it from me (and DavidJP!) that if you like piccolo, save seeds!Originally posted by DavidJP View PostSungold has definitely been good but better has been the Piccolo seeds that I saved from supermarket tomatoes and then grew up. Piccolo is supposed to be F1 but all the plants I grew were uniform and very like the original piccolo and tasted great to boot, better than my Sungolds really though not too much in it.
Definitely a keeper for next year.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

So hard to tell, isn't it, being as growing conditions and the weather (ha ha!) can make a difference to flavour.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.
