Veg fertilizer

Could someone recommend a general purpose fertilizer. My sweetcorn and beans looks like they could do with some (sweetcorn looking a bit yellow). Never used any before (first time growing), so not sure what would be good.

The basic rule is Nitrogen (N) for leafy crops, Phosphorus (P) for roots, and Potassium (K) for fruiting crops.
The NPK value relates to the amount and type of nutrients in the plant food.

I use liquid comfrey for everything. Use your Search button to locate lots of advice about Comfrey on this forum.
Other people use Blood, Fish & Bone (organic, slow release), Growmore or Miracle Gro (not organic, synthetic)

Growmore must be the most widely used general purpose fertiliser available. It is even available in an organic form. I like to use a slow release fertiliser such as bone meal when planting and as a top dressing (don't allow it to come into contact with the plants). For a good feed of particularly hungry veg. such as sweetcorn, pumpkins and courgettes I use a liquid tomatoe feed.

Blood Fish & Bone will attract vermin like rats & foxes, so don't use it on the surface, put it in the planting hole instead.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll try Growmore. Though I might grow some nettles and comfrey plants to get some liquid feed next year.

Organic Growmore? That's a new one on me! I always thought it's predecessor was the organic equivalent, i.e. Blood,fish and bone meal!

I always used to use growmore but never seemed to notice but improvement in growth. I still use it occasionally but now tend to use pelleted chicken manure far more often, especiallly if I want to give plants a boost.

you could use worm casts from a wormary......very interesting beechgrove garden program the other night.

Do you think chicken pellets would work for sweetcorn snadger? also if i were to soak chicken pellets in water could i then use this as a liquid feed?
