Don't worry MayTreeFrannie - you'll get there!Originally posted by maytreefrannie View PostI read this thread quite a lot - I'm amazed at what people are still picking.

It's great actually that so many people are still getting returns from their gardening - I just can't help wishing it was me!
My mantra all last year was 'next year those (*insert veg of choice) will be mine!'
And now they are. Yesterday I picked a portion of calabrese spears, a big carrier bag of Jerusalem artichokes, the first parsnip, some MASSIVE spring onions which look like leeks they have been in the ground so long and some carrot fly-eaten carrots.

A lovely big swede, some leeks, some red & green curly Kale, a handful of purple brussels and a nice sized savoy cabbage
Added to some onions from the store in the garage, a few carrots, a handful of pearl barley & some lamb - Lamb Broth!

Box day again, so in the gales, sleet and lindin' rain, I harvested approx 43 kg carrots, 20kg beetroot, 43 cabbages (mix of Savoy and Winter) 43 swedes, 20kg Milan turnips, 1 raddichio, some chard, some rocket and some parsley.
Usually I love my job, but today I forgot that I had left my waterproofs at home, so was freesing cold and soaked, and as I already have a stinkin' cold I was not the happiest harvester today.
Still, it's now snowing outside, so could have been worse I suppose

All of my winter leeks - as we're getting the garden partially over hauled which involves a veg plot expansion (HURRAH) and the were "in the way" according to the bloke - as were my 6 PSB plants which he pulled up too (but i will let him off as they were mighty sad looking specimens).

Given the current weather forecast, I started to lift my veggies for Thursday this afternoon - 48 cabbages (mix of Savoy and Tundra) 5 red cabbages, 48 swede and a barrowful of Purple Top Milan turnips.
By the time I had done all that lot, I couldn't feel my toes and my fingers were blue - did I mention it was snowing heavily at the time !

Not snowing today but temp never got above -1
Lifted a barrowload of Jerusalem Artichokes - used a fork but the top two inches of ground was coming away in one piece so took quite a long time to get my full barrow.
Cut and bagged 45 bunches of parsley as well as the last of the batch of Pak Choi that was ready - have another batch starting to form heads and yet another batch planted out last week.Rat
