  • Where does sweetcorn go??

My allotment book says with potatoes and carrots, but I've read a couple of thread on here where people have planted it after their broad beans...

I was planning to put it at one end of my brassica bed (which also houses the salad crops, asparagus and herbs )

Will that be OK? I'm totally confused!

I put mine in the same bed, and treat it the same as peas and beans. You can grow it anywhere though; I'm sure the brassica bed will be absolutely fine.

I shove it in the 'miscellaneous and/or confusing' bed along with pumpkins, squash, quinoa and celery.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

Thanks Bluemoon - just reminded me to sow my quinoa. Meant to do it at the weekend and knew there was something else to go in.

If your allotment is anything like mine, anywhere you can fit it in! Plans are all well and good, but you really don't need to be too rigid about them.

Where it is not going to shade out anything that'll resent it. I think your plan sounds fine as brassicas lettuce or asparagus won't care . A lot of people plant up squashes underneath to save space. I can't see it's that practical with carrots and spuds unless they are all maincrops for harvesting in Autumn when the sweetcorn is gone.
