  • Small White Spots on Potatoes

Hiya all, am having a go at growing some potatoes for the first time, have got some Second Earlies (Wilja) in containers, when digging some of them up a few of them have got very small white spots on them, they wipe off easily enough, am just wondering if it is a problem at all/what am I doing wrong!
Any advice gratefully received! Many thanks!

    Hi Linda,

I grow all my spuds in bags and last year had much of the same, little white spots all over most of my crop.

Although I was a little worried at first they do indeed just wipe off and did not affect the storage or taste of the crop at all.

So dont worry, just get the butter ready

    Darren

      Small White Spots on Potatoes

Cheers Darren, I did read somewhere online that it is something to do with overwatering, apparently the spores appear because they are clogged and the potatoes can't breath in the waterlogged dirt - maybe I will not water so much and see what happens - they do brush off as you say and don't affect the taste - yummy!
