have you tried bleach,put a bit on your hands and rub it in,it works when the hands get plum stained,just give them a jolly good wash,then hand cream,

Just cleaned the kitchen down and used bleach, usually wear gloves, seems to have done the trick though.

I'm definately in the prevention camp too. I work with clay and paint as well as play in the mud so I use a barrier cream from Boots before I start. I rub a generous amount in and make sure there is also some pushed and trapped under and around the edges of my nails near the cuticles and into any dry areas. I use gloves too, though also can't resist actually getting my hands dirty. I also can't sow or prick out seedlings with gloves on and the compost I use is really difficult to shift. When I get in I give my hands a quick scrub whith a nail brush and clean underneath with a file and they come up great. Then I use Diprobase cream that my daughter has for her eczema and I was prescribed for my dry hands when I first started my job years ago (again you can get it from Boots). Fab stuff, makes your hands very soft.

mix ordinary sugar with baby oil and a little squirt of wash liquid,the oil not only helps to lift out the dirt but is kind on the skin,the sugar acts as a jentle scourer and removes the dead skin cells,then apply a good hand cream,my husband has a lot of bother with his hands crackink and this helps no end,for an even better skrub use demorara sugar,a softer use soft brow sugar,this is also good on any part of your body,add some spices or lavener oil ,why pay the earth for so called beaty products,give it a try,i have even used olive oil,experiment

I second that. I mostly wear gloves, but if i don't bother olive oil and sugar works a treat, then I wash the oil off with a handsoap. I do like to use handcream as well, been suffering lots of dryness and cracking due to the amount of handwashing required at work.

glad you got sorted out,nothing more embarrasing than holding out stained hands,see you also got your canes sorted,they are cheaper than wilkos,if i go next wednesday i can get 10% of as well,

Dirty hands

If you scrape your fingernails along a bar of soap it stops the dirt getting underneath. Helps keep them clean too.

Also, mix table salt with olive oil to make a paste and use to rub gently onto dry hands. Rinse off under warm water and gently pat dry.

The salt will help heal any cuts by cleaning the wound and the oil will moisturise the skin to avoid dryness and its all so natural, you could eat it without being ill, except for the nasty taste

So no nasty chemical reactions on the skin such as excema (apologies if spelt wrong)

Following a suggestion earlier in the thread I got some Ecover Heavy Duty Cleaner and its great. Leaves your hands feeling quite oil and smooth. I suffer from dry skin anyway, but found it was really good, so would recommend it.
