Tamina Tomato

Has anyone grown Tamina tomato before. I have half a dozen plants and if I had not labeled them I would not have guessed they were tomatoes as the leaves look more like aubergine leaves. Any information on this variety would be greatfull.

They are a potato leaf variety - if this helps - slightly more pointy?

yep they are the same as brandy wine that is a potatoe variety,i was having trouble as i thought the tomato was suffering with not enough water as the leaves were more crinkly.then i looked into the tomato and realised why.

I'v grown them before got 3 on the go this year I don't pinched out ,feed the same as any other tom plants . I found its a nice mid /large fruit perfect for a fryup only tip i can think of is make sure the soil/growbag is very loss ie broken up (pritty much the same as any tom plant still i found it effected this type more )

Im growing tamina this year and it looks very clearly a potato leaf next to my sweet million. With your recommendation dave about the fryup, i really cant wait now.

Yep, big bushy foliage like a spud! I'm also giving them a trial this year!

I've got some on the go as well, but they are still tiny seedlings, can't seem to get them going, my other tom plants are growing well?

Strange that, mine were planted at the same time as Shirley and Roma toms and they are streets ahead of both!

I have some seeds but havent planted any of them as I have about 40 tom plants of various types on the go already, but after reading they are good for fryups I may just be tempted to plant a couple.

I'm trying these as well for the first time this year. I'm going to plant outside in a month or so. Its interesting to read about being potato variety bevcause the leaves are very different to other tomatoes I've grown.

One thing I have noticed is they didn't like peat free compost. This year I bought peat free trying to do my bit for the envirnment. I have 18 plants and when i came to pot on I did few with some old peat based and the rest with the new peat free. The peat free ones did nothing for two weeks, whilst the peat based romped away. They've since started to grow again but I'm less than impressed. Is this common?

Well I sowed a few Tamina tomatoes because I either got them free with something or they were cheap, and not one of them has amounted to anything: two germinated and withered away whilst other varieties sown in the same modules have done really well. I get the impression they are fussy so and sos. It's no great hardship as I've got about 100 plants knocking around, but definitely something to note for next year.

Well done to those on this thread who have had far more success that I!

I am growing tamina tomato this year (only 1 plant) just to experiment it's taste.

Matt, I use peat free multy purpose compost for sowing and potting all seedlings, the Tamina toms seems to be fine with it but again I have no comparison with peat base... I really don't know.
