Everything I grow dies :(

this is completely pants. I honestly dont have much time until I get all my uni work sorted, but all my seedlings, courgettes, eggplants, bellpeppers seem to have curled up and died!
I really dont know what Ive dont wrong.

ugh, My Nan has and my Grandad's had green fingers I totally dont take after them at all!
this isnt fair, even my month old gerber plant flower buds have all died! :S

Where did you keep them, what were they growing in? peat - soil ?

Well I used the dirt mum bought and had in the garden, so I guess compost?

I started them in plastic trays and fibre pots, all are in fibre pots now.
I have them in a tray in my room, Im in the loft so it gets quite bright.

The bell peppers in the bathroom on the window sill are not dying so quickly, maybe doing okay, just not getting bigger.

The others are on a windowsill near the back door, those are pretting much dead now.
The only 2 that look healthy are on the windowsill in the kitchen, Im pretting sure they are Roma tomatoes.

We all have our different ways of growing and it needs adapting depending on what you are growing!
You might be fantastic with plants which some of us just kill off by looking at!
Time will tell where your gardening skills do best.

As Headfry says- how and where are you growing??

Might be something simple like the wrong type of compost- too hot- too cold- too humid- overwatering- underwatering - not enough light- too much light- wrong windowsill -draughts- water too hot/cold-wrong song you are singing/out of tune- watering at the wrong time of day.....

I'm better with planting direct into the soil for some things- it just depends!

We are going to start sowing seeds this week- so no it's not too late at all ( although for chillies it is pushing it a bit!)

Fibre pots might be the problem if you are not watering very often the fibre pots tend to dry out the compost hope i am wrong jacob

Jacob marley is right about the pots, they do tend to dry out quickly.
Do your seedlings get hot sunshine during the day? If you have managed to germinate them you are half way there. We just have to find a way for you to keep them alive. Sometimes peppers do seem to just stop growing for a while, then away they go again. The ones on the windowsill, are they above a radiator? could be the peat in the bottom of the pots is drying out to quickly ( something I have found with the heated propagator)

FECK!!!!!!!!!!

So I put new eggplant and courgette seeds in dirt in fibre pots in my room yesterday afternoon in the try in myroom, on top of my wooden toy box and the mice
(we have a problem with them at the mo, even with traps, sonars, poisons, they still come from neighbors)
Have managed to jump/climb up it and DIG! the dirt was everywhere seeds are gone Im just not meat to grow my own veggies

We started growing things in May last year and still ended up with a lot of beans, a few carrots and potatoes.

I think your problem is either light or water related, you could try putting some outside and watering some less and some more to see what happens and compare them.

I've found even if you think there's a lot of light indoors there may not be as much as you think. Plus are they sitting between a curtain and a window, as that can create quite cold conditions at night?

is it possible to make a little cage over them , or cover them with some sort of netting ? - that would keep the little b*****d mice off them !

Was thinking the same...make sure they have at least 6h of sunshine, and as close as possible from the window, to get all the light they need to put new growth.
I agree with the fiber pot, they dry out too quickly. Maybe the compost you are using is not adapted or too old check the label for information.
depending where you live you could maybe try to plant outside, or let them during the day get them in at night...

I used to think I had black fingers rather than green ones, as my house plants always died on me. However I seem to have more success now with edible stuff, perhaps because I care more!

Lots of good tips so far, and don't worry, there's plenty of time to sow some more if this lot don't survive. I've only just sown my courgettes (and squash, sweetcorn and French beans), and I still have lots of outdoor crops and herbs to get going over the next few weeks.

Please do not use the word dirt it makes me cringe .
Dirt is what you get from under your finger nails plants grow in compost or soil jacob please i do not mean to offend

Ok angeleyezx - you've had some great advice - the best of which is keep trying and put the failures down and giggle at them later.

I've had years - literally - where I've;
1. sown stuff too deep/too shallow/in wrong compost
2. they've had too much water/too little water
3. too much sun/too little sun
4. too hot/too cold
5. eaten by mice, rabbits, deer, fox, slug, next door allotments kid (my devine strawberries god bless 'em).

Last year I grew veggies (for the first time successfully) that it turns out I don't like eating! Turnips/Cabbage/Leeks...

But I keep my colleagues at work, friends an family in a constant state of mirth over my fated ineptitude.

I'm loving every minue - and I bet you will too...

When i started i did most things wrong, dont try to grow too many things at once concentrate on what you really enjoy eating! That way you can have time to concentrate and perfect your growing methods, we all make mistakes! Its a constant learning cycle no matter how old you are!
