  • potential problem with my sweetcorn

Hi, I am new to growing sweetcorn and have managed, I am very proud to say, to raise from seed some very healthy, strongly growing sweetcorn. I planted them out on the allotment and they are growing well, my problem is they seem to have sent out side shoots from the base of the stalk. Is this normal and should I be worried? Do I remove them and if so how?
Many thanks for your thoughts Helen

That is completely normal, depending on the variety, the corn can have 2 or 3 main stems- each will produce a corn. The side shoot that you see probably is just coming from the same point at the base of the plant and is branching under the soil.

It is all good. dont remove them.

i hope they produce tasty corns for you.
