Harvesting times

On French seed packets, they tell you approximately how long it is from germination to harvest for various crops. They don't seem to do so on English seed packets.

Is there an idiot's guide somewhere where I can find out roughly how many weeks from sowing to harvest for various veg? I know how long for potatoes and french beans but nothing else!

I would like to be able to plan my year so I have something ready to pick most of the time and can avoid gluts. In previous years, I've never grown enough for it to be a problem, but we're doing a bit of a Tom and Barbara this year!

Do you have any gardening books? They should tell you?
Most of my seed packets do tell me, thank goodness or I woudl be out there everyday checking them! lol

Or google them on the rhs or bbc gardeing site maybe?
