  • Should seed trays be dark?

    Morning all!

I'm sowing seed in recycled plastic trays, amongst other things, and wondered if I should line the clear ones with something to make them dark. Does it matter if roots glimpse the light?

    Info appreciated. Fran

I have found that light coloured pots and trays encourage green algae/mould (thinking of vending machine coffee cups in particular)

Dark is better, but use whatever you can if it's free.

I've been sowing seeds in chineese take away trays and putting them in my propagator to germinate without any problem at all.
