Flower buckets

I got some from Asda, asked for about ten, not wanting to seem greedy and got given about 30 !
So that was a good days work. They told me they just throw them in the bin, seems crazy.

As Bride points out - I also get mine from Co-op - who have no recycling scheme in place for the plastic at present (our area) - they're glad to be rid of them! It is a great surprise that the Co-op does not have a scheme as it places its ethical, green, free range and pest-free status high on a pedestal. I feel it probably won't be long before they recycle. I even suggested at my local shop that they stack them in tens and ask for a charitable donation to their cause of the day.

As for recycling your unused ones - if you have enough space at front of house - just place there with a notice - 'free to good home' - there'll be plenty of gardeners who perhaps have stopped short of asking for them and will be glad someone else has!

sadly i live in a close, and the only persons round here likely to take them are the kids so they can throw them around the estate

I get mine free from my co-op, about 15 a week, just have to remember to pop in and pick them up every week.
no-one else asks for them and they get thrown away otherwise.
obviously I don't need them all, and was planning on offering those I don't need on my local freecycle, sadly they have still not confirmed my subscription 4 weeks on, so I will have to think up another way. my garden is full of them now.

You should try applying to freecycle again, that happened the first time I applied, apparently a lot of e-mails are getting lost in the system for some reason - they say they're in the process of fixing it!
I'm sure someone on there would be happy to receive them!

Same happened with me, the first time I registered on freecycle! I recently re-registered with success and am off-loading, happily!

That's a brilliant bit of info re: flower buckets. Am off to Tesco tonight for essentials (teabags and wine!), so will have a lookie.

I get my buckets from Morrisons as well, did I read buy one get one free? Will go to Morrisons tomorrow and check it out. I lost my driveway six months ago to black buckets - I've got extra rhubarb in some, very small blueberry bushes (the ones out of Lidls), Japanese bunching onions, did have Christmas potatoes but ate them all, my chives and parsley are in them, have popped goosberries, rasps and blackcurrants in some (packs of 3 soft fruits from Lidls could not resist). I have some empty buckets and if I get creative I could fit some more in - did not know you could grow tomatoes, chillis and sweetcorn in them. Does anyone know can I grow beans in them - I have some Trails of Tears and no more space

I grow Bush beans in mine, did try runners last year but they fell over in the wind so I ended up re-potting them into larger buckets.
