i am trying to grow 6 long carrots in a barrel. growing medium is 1 part peat and 1 part sand to 2 part soil. any advice or info on what feed to give them

Avoid anything with a high Nitrogen content (such as manure and some proprietary fertilisers) as that will induce forking. I wouldn't feed them anything much to start with, they like poor sandly soil and you've got quite a bit of compost and peat there already. Later in the season you might want to use a higher potash feed, it depends on how long the carrots will be in the barrel.
