Stupid question time.

I want to protect my brassicas this year without spending money I�m no longer earning.
Can I use fleece over the hoops? I have that. I wasn�t sure if it might block out to much light or get them to hot?
I know net curtains are good for the job but don�t have any.

have read on here a few moons ago about net curtains from Ikea,have a look at their site,apparently they very good value,also can be sown together to make as big as you want,that is,providing they are within budget,supply and can they be got to peeps,fleece will offer a bit of protection until the breeze gets it,good luck

I use blue debri netting which is no good to you if you haven't already got it.

What are you wanting to protect them from birds or caterpillars?

If its birds there are no end of bird scarers including plastic hawks,old cd's strung out,video tapes unwound, scarecrows and anything that makes a noise windmills made from bottles seem to work..
I stick empty plastic bottles on top of canes so that I don't poke my eye out, but these rattle in the wind and maybe scare birds?

Birds aren’t a problem it’s the caterpillars & moths ( mostly moths ). Can’t remember the name of the moth but I did had a thread running on them last year........somewhere.

We have used the Ikea nets with good results.
Just a thought....
They do deliver to the mainland -is there a designated delivery place over there which you could use?
Or are you preferring to self isolate???

Isolating as we�ve all been advised to do.
Going to the main land for net curtains would be classed as unnecessary travel. With or without these movements restrictions

Rather than using hoops why don't you simply cover the plants with fleece as the cabbage grows the fleece will lift or as Snadger said a garlic spray, which I have used with success and its also good protection from slugs

Perhaps you may be able to pick up some curtains from them.

I might try the garlic spray. I�d much rather eat the garlic . Fleece needs attaching to something or it�ll just blow away. Didn�t want to faff with removing half dozen rocks every time I wanted to do something to the bed. also pinned down like that would hinder growth if I wasn�t paying attention.

Cheap for 50 metres and wide enough to cover the hoop frames I previously made for bird netting strawberries.

It looks like it will do the job of keeping the butterfies off and others here swear by it.

Just to let you know Sp, all the bits of garlic that is discarded, roots, leaf, skin and so on can be steeped in water and used as a spray, it is also advisable to spray after heavy rain so again might be a bit of work
