I've been cutting several off every time I visit lately. They've been shading the sweet potatoes and the carrots, so had to come off. I also removed a few that where blocking my path.

    • Thanks Ameno, always good to know if others do the same thing!
Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Good soil, strong winds and 4 Giant Puffballs! https://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gr...lies/smile.gif

      • Hello,
I sowed direct into soil outside Hunter Butternut squash early May. They germinated in 5-7 days, and got to seedling size after about 2 weeks. But after the first 2 or 3 weeks they havent really grown on much more since then. I spaced them 2 metres apart with expectation of mass of foliage and vines. It now mid July they have had 2 months to put on some bulk but barely anything. Still just 10cm tall 2 or 3 big leaves. Times running out for the growing season. They meant to set fruit in July.
Whats up with them. They are billed as bred for Northern British climate. I am located southern scotlands area.
Next year would i be better off with a Hubbard type squash.
