Potatoes,I lived on baked potatoes when I was younger,I’d only have to buy cheese or barter some of my lovely large potatoes for some cheese somebody’s made,if there was no shops.

I would have to say tomatoes would always be top of my list.
Onions, all types would be a close second.
We use loads of both.
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

For me it would be onions, they can boiled, fried or baked, and you can have them for breakfast, dinner or tea
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

You've just reminded me I need to sow my Sutton and Aquadulce broadies.Originally posted by FromYorkshiretoBucks View PostIf it was on how proud I was of them, when I grew them this year, then squash / Pumpkins.
For taste - Broad beans. Thrown in a pan with diced smoked bacon and served on sourdough for an early summer breakfast, yes please!!

What rules?Originally posted by Small pumpkin View PostFor some bizarre reason Im actually playing by the rules
so Ive only chosen one thing.
Nothing wrong with pumpkins. Theyre a very close second on the grow list

Chillies and pumpkins are both fruits (because they contain the seeds of the next generation). Confusing inniti!

Sort of split here, if it were to help feed me and survive, then starch like tatties would be top, pink fir apples or rooster.
If it were just for taste and versatility, then possibly Sweetcorn, eaten fresh(raw) or on a Barbie with a drizzle of lime juice or frozen to go in soups/stews.
