Red onions from seed.

Hi all. I have successfully germinated red onions from seed . However after planting on a number of them into individual modules I found many of them still held onto the seed husk so I have removed roughly half the tiny stem. Do I keep doing this or do I just let the stem grow. I know the aim is to have three leaves before transplanting them again. I did read a bit online but I'm really quite confused as to what should be happening can anyone help

how big are they?

I generally leave the husk on until it is clear it is holding it back.

I also tend to leave them alone, I do however sow single seeds in a module, so that root disturbance is reduced and they can also be left until bigger before potting on.

I also sow 2 seeds per small modules, get a good crop that way, although bulbs may be a tad smaller. I also tend just to snip off the seed casing once they have grown another leaf, the first leaf tends to die off anyway over time.
