The Naming of Leeks

Here we go again - more confusion.
This is the link I put up earlier for the St. Victor leeks



This is D0bies offering for Northern Lights F1 (British bred).

The photo is the same for both - and I mean exactly the same.
Who do we believe? Are they F1 or not?
I paid 95p for 300 seeds - Dobies are selling 50 seeds for �2.49.
T&M sell 45 seeds @�2.99 (same photo)

I do wish these companies would agree.

I got mine from T&M, �2.99 for 45 seeds, described as F1 with a similar but not identical picture to Dobies. The foliage is nowhere near as purple as in the pictures, at least not yet. I suppose if we get a very cold spell it might change colour.

These are mine in the tunnel at the allotment - photo taken on 1st January.

Can we actually trust any seed companies? How can they use the same photo and call them different things. It's very unfair on us the unsuspecting punter.

Anyone who is prepared to put their 5.5 inch tight button or 6 inch tight button on a bench for judgement deserves to be arrested..

It could even differ in neighbouring village shows as it's down to each Show's Committee to decide on their rules for their show.

The Criteria I gave was the NVS present measurements.

You are right, although the colouring is more extreme on the Dobies photo.

I've noticed that some sellers use the same photo for every different variety of a particular type of plant.

VC I think you should buy every variety of violet leek being sold ( with the same photo) and do a trial. Then let us know the difference

I have Musselburgh and Elefant.

Not much difference between the 2, only that one goes to seed earlier, and I keep harvesting the other.

Just pulled a seedhead off a leek on my old plot. Seeds are drying in the cupboard and I have tried to rescue some grass leeks by putting them in a glass of water on windowsill. If they sprout roots I will pot them up.
