Pac choi always bolts no matter when I sow it.Adding Bulb fennel to my list, it all leaves more space for what I know is going to grow.Originally posted by Bren In Pots View PostAdding Broad beans to the list for the second year running I've hardly had any beans probably the same amount as you buy in two tins.Location....East Midlands.

Are you growing these from seed? When I worked in the garden centre pricking out the half hardy annuals, lobelia was treated differently from everything else. Rather than planting one seedling per cell, you took a small bunch, say 5-7 seedlings, and planted them all in one cell. Too few and you got a very straggly plant, too many and it was overcrowded. If you are treating them like normal plants you will get a very poor display.Originally posted by jackarmy View PostLobelia, really is the last chance saloon for these little critters.A life is like a garden. Agreed - I don't touch the seedlings like you would with others. I scoop a portion of compost with a few seedlings in it out of the seed tray with a teaspoon and then slide that off the spoon onto a compost 1/2 filled module.Originally posted by Penellype View Postyou took a small bunch, say 5-7 seedlings, and planted them all in one cell. .

Anything Brassica, relentless Cabbage White invasion, caterpillars on constant attack. Brassica Whitefly smothered everything, then ruddy pigeons took over.
Yes it was all netted. I dont need cabbage that much.!Blogging at..... www.thecynicalgardener.wordpress.com

You could try growing early, quick growing brassicas. Had really good success with broccoli raab, turnip greens and pak choi which were mostly harvested before any of the pests showed up. It was the stuff which stayed in the ground all summer that got hit really badly. Will also be trying komatsuna and wong bok (napa cabbage) this year.Originally posted by seasprout View PostAnything Brassica, relentless Cabbage White invasion, caterpillars on constant attack.
