I like fat baby - I tried the bigger versions with no success but Fat Baby are reliable and 4 plants produces kilos of the things. They have self-seeded on my allotment so now there's no need for me to plant them. Also a bonus...

This is my pic of the various ages of an achocha fruit, all edible bar the one on the far right which is only worth picking for saving seeds:

One used to reseed but this year I didn’t get any. I suppose it depend on how hou grow. I cover loads of areas with a newspaper and grass mulch in desperation to halt some weeds!

Those spikes are fairly soft and easily rub off

Quite an apt thread as I've just finished pickling 4 jars of them. Very vigorous and prolific. I've found the flavour a bit bland to be honest, currently experimenting with ways to make them taste interesting. Easy enough to grow, and I suppose you get different nutrients which is always good. Easy to put in sauces, pasta bakes etc as don't really taste of much, just kind of 'green'.

If I find a good recipe I'll let you know!
            Another happy Nutter...

I'll be ordering some seeds, none at 50p in Wyvale, just for the interest to see what they're like. Trouble is now everything is a waiting game.
              Thanks for the replies.

Rampant!! Tendrils like springs that cling to anything. Don't stand still for more than 5 seconds.

                      Hello
I plan on growing these this years ( I can never resist the new-to-me and novel... and have consequently had a lot of duds over the years...) I take it they are ok to grow in pots? Any tips re what size?

Well, some of these seeds jumped into my basket on fleabay and checked themselves out! I must celebrate the new job somehow (other than the two massive creamcakes I had!! haha)
