Autumn planting garlic

Autumn planging is nearly upon us....what varieties are you trying this year. Where are you buying from and when are you going to plant out?

I am sowing giant garlic in September.
I have had some previous issues with garlic rot so I may just plant a few bought in cloves through my flower borders. How about you?

I got my garlic from an asian veg shop last year, it did really well, i am doing the same again.
I don't know what variety it is, but all I know is that it is not Chinese garlic. It is purple skinned and very strong. Il have to do something to improve drainage as it can get very muddy on my plot

Hi have thought about growing them on mound of soil about 6inch high and 4ft wide ? atb Dal.

I am growing Germidour for the first time and Early purple wight saved from last year. Can't believe it is nearly time to be sowing garlic already!!

Forgot about Garlic.I will be growing Aldi's finest I think. I am a bit disillusioned with expensive GC garlic.. I had better results in the past with shop bought stuff so rightly or wrongly, I will stick with it.

Sounds good, for drainage etc, some of the other plot holders grow garlic in raised beds to deal with drainage, it works well.
I don't know atb Dal is

Don't buy any..
Replant from this year's crop which will include Messidrome, Printanor, EPW, Sprint amongst others..
Also have my own "no name variety" as such , brought along over the years from bulbils

Haven’t grown garlic since a disasterous attempt a few years ago so will have to buy bulbs to get me going. Was looking last night and was thinking I would buy from Marshalls as they have an autumn garlic pack with 2 bulbs Carcassonne wight and 2 Provence wight. Liked the idea of trying both hardneck and soft neck. Plus I don’t have space for more than 40 plants.

I saved from my Purple Wight and Solent Wight from two years ago, so will be using these again. I didn’t manage to get them in until January this year so they were a bit small.

Didn’t plant my elephant garlic until late Feb so I’ve lifted them and will be replanting (they didn’t split).

I’ve also bought a bag of purple garlic from Natoora at Ocado, they are huge cloves so I’m very tempted to use them. I think when I asked some people they say not to buy garlic from groceries in case I import in white rot. Has anyone had this problem, imported diseases?

I bought mine from a farmer's market a few weeks ago.
Variety unknown but they look super healthy.
I think I will start half in pots and put the other half in the ground in a raised bed.

Hmm, I got garlic rot about 4 years ago....I can now only grow in a small bed and in between my flowers, I seemed to spread it everywhere! Even a patch I didn't grow garlic in got it. I can't honestly say where the rot came from but if I had my time again I would be very careful.

I brought Garlic last year for this year but it appears to not have gone to well so this time I�m going to try The Garlic Farm. A little bit more expensive but hopefully it will be worth it! Just wondering if I should grow straight into the ground or in pots to plant out considering I�m on clay soil?

I saw the garlic farm and was thinking of getting from there but was a bit more expensive. Also the autumn packs they had included elephant garlic which I had not been planning to grow (although could’ve persuaded if anyone would recommend it) Does anyone have a view on whether it is worth the extra cost to get from the garlic farm rather than somewhere like Marshalls.

I'm giving garlic a miss this year, after two years of poor crops. This year they rotted at the base of the stems, despite the dry weather.
