Just picked 10 cucumbers! Do I follow advice & pick off flowers now?

Come back from holiday to find the 1 cucumber that was coming along nicely has been joined by 9 others. Have picked them all and have 3/4 others yet to come. Was advised by my friend who has been looking after my plants, that his pal told him that I need to pick off any flowers so that plants are able to support cucumbers. However now I have gone and picked most of them do I still need to do this?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Don't know - I'm just jealous! I have had a single cucumber growing for weeks and weeks - it's now about 4" long. The courgette next to it has produced about 6 long (8" or so) courgettes in the time this thing has taken to grow its 4". I should shout at it more, I know.

Whay variety and type of cuke are you growing - is it indoors F1 variety ?

Yes it is an F1. There are 4 plants each in a 9inch pot. Harvest Aug-Sept and it says to "retain both male and female flowers"

Haven't grown that variety so not familiar with its habit but I would leave the flowers well alone from now on - they form cukes ! Don't worry about the plant - it will support them.
HOWEVER, i am prepared to stand corrected by someone with more knowledge of that particular variety - sure someone will be along soon to confirm or contradict me !

Would have thought that so long as the plant is producing healthy cucs then leave well alone. Perhaps near the end of the season, it would be worth removing flowers if there isn't enough time for them to develop properly as this would enable the plant to concentrate it's efforts on the fruits it already has. Again, like Rat, am willing to be told I'm talking rubbish, just seems to make sense to me.
