What should I put on the GH "floor"?

I've been given a GH and its going to be put on the lawn on a concrete block plinth. I don't want to grow into the soil but what options are there for the "floor". My other GH is on a solid floor - concrete and paving slabs. Is there a cheaper way of doing this? Perhaps making "raised" beds, and lining them with membrane, and filling with soil?

I did miss it yes, haven't been on much (working very, very long hours (12-14hr days)) :/

Why don't you want to grow in the floor?

You could just create a simple raised bed (U Shape, if you like) - fill with soil on top of the grass... ?

Dunno why Chris S'pose I just like the flexibility of a solid floor (if that makes sense?) Would I put cardboard/membrane on the grass, then topsoil?

I'd just create a U shaped bed - up the sides and along the top end of the GH - if it's deep enough it'll kill the grass anyway - you could line it with cardboard if you'd like. You could line the "path" with membrane then, save cutting the grass inside then

Ditto, you can always put pots on the soil...bit I'd always prefer soil to hard standing in a greenhouse. Less watering and more nutrients. U shaped beds, definitely

Mind if I butt in? I was facing the same dilemma but have decided on a U shaped bed with a path down the middle. What would a reasonable width path be for a 6 x 8? Patio slabs are 40cm but that seems a bit narrow for comfort.

Thanks All for your advice Just been talking it through with the builder. The site is sloping and has to be levelled - the turf is coming off for the footings for the base and its going to need summat like hardcore or a lot of topsoil to level out the interior.
Since this new 8x12 one is going to lead almost directly off the kitchen it will be my sitting in with a cuppa GH - so needs something solid underfoot. The plan at the moment looks like L shaped raised beds- but on top of concrete/paving so that I can change my mind about the layout (as usual)

Its a long story Chris.........but I can't lay the base so it better to pay someone who can!! He's a friend of CG's and of the GH donor so I've delegated the complete task to him. Saves all the hassle

Strewth Potty - its so hot out there today I'm nearly shirtless myself
Any time now 2 young men will appear to dig out the footings - the ground is like a rock and I'm just trying to dig out a jasmine that's in the way.

It sounds to me to be similar to a consevatory or the powsh alternative......an orange-ry?

If so, I would use 4" of concrete and quarry tiles on top. Make sure you have a slight fall to be able to flush the area out with a hose.
