I was out for another 6 hours or so today, the polytunnel is starting to take shape. I need to add a bit more soil to the beds and give them a good turning over. I want to put wood on the floor in the corner and maybe stones down the middle.
That looks great Where did you purchase your polytunnel from?

I was out from 11:30 until 8:30 today weeding the polytunnel then making a raised bed for it, my back is killing me and I'll be in bits in the morning but I'm in brilliant form and actually came back into the house with a smile on my face.

Placed recently purchased surfinias and strawberry plants in heated greenhouse to acclimatise.

    Will repot today.

    Tomatoes growing slowly.

Min Greenhouse temp 9C - 25C in sun yesterday.

Overnight temps outside range from -6 to -1C.

    Daytime ? a max of 6C.

Looked at bees quickly to check stores . OK. (all hives insulated top and sides last summer)

Toasty in the tunnel today, compared with outside

I've planted out another 3 rows of peas which were supposed to be going outside, but the others are doing so well inside and there's no hope of planting outside for a while yet, so thought I may as well shove them in

Weeded round the onions, cabbage and broccoli, and pulled out some horsetail that was starting to sprout below the surface

Finished laying weed-control fabric on the paths.

I knocked snow off again today, sowed strawberry seeds into trays. Also pricked out a few more toms. Left it at that as too cold. Brrrrrrr!

    Looks great!

I called into the allotment after the meeting at lunchtime and was astounded at how warm it was in the tunnel to say we've had no sunshine at all. I had to take my coat off!

I put a raised bed in the greenhouse, just down one side. If I want to do the other side I'll need a stone cutting disc for an angle grinder because the concrete is sloped rather than straight. I intend putting in a wooden frame down the side I raised and having stuff grow at waist height too, I'll put shelves at the back for tools and empty pots etc.

It's bolted into the concrete so it's very stable, the bit along the inside is well screwed into the other bits and if it was 1 mm longer it wouldn't fit between the front and back bits of concrete so it's well secure too. It should definitely support a frame for a higher bed on top.

I got the snow off the poly and noted it was 12c. I did the same off the greenhouse and it was 8c. Outside was 5c.

Walked down to the new plot and cleared the snow from greenhouse #1's roof. Stuck around for half an hour drinking coffee and filming a little video.. It will take me an hour to walk up to greenhouse #2 in this snow so I'm going to leave that one till tomorrow.

    I'd use Round-up but that's me.

It is a last resort but after years of hand pulling these weeds - and losing - I have to be realistic....

Went down to knock snow off the tunnel (most had blown off anyway) and discovered that I haven't quite killed all the cabbage seedlings 'Bout half of them have perked up under the fleece I threw over them, yay!
