saving my spuds (from the rain)

i dug up a few of my tatties the other day and with all this rain weve had they were growing in mud so it was tools out to make some sort of cover with heavy rain forcast. 10 off cuts of scaffold tube rescued some time back from the skip (i knew they would come in handy for something) walloped into the ground then some lengths of blue plastic waterpipe just pushed in and screwed to the top center spar . clear poly sheeting spread out over the frame and stapled to the wood bottoms also to the blue plastic pipe hopefully this will allow my tatties to lead a normal life fingers crossed we have no gales

If you could seal up the ends when needed it might also save them from blight. Maybe?

I've given up on my spuds this year. One one's that didn't rot in the wet and cold soil have been eaten by slugs. I have a few that look OK on the half plot though but I only set about 20 on there.

It's not just what falls from the sky though, it's the stuff that soaks through the ground and rots them.

the beds have good drainage its the non stop rain coming down thats the problem

I took a couple of spud plants up today and it was so soggy underneath, it's a miracle they haven't rotted. I'm hoping it will have dried up a bit today, so going back up tomorrow. I only found a meal's worth on those two plants, and that's not right
