Things You Do Want To See In Your Polytunnel

I agree ... and of course Some People want THIS sticky'd, and Other People want THAT ...

My personal preference would be to have one Sticky in each Forum as an "Index of interesting posts". Folk wanting to find a "popular post" then just need to look in the Index Post / Sticky. Perfereable separated into various sections / categories - so a current but time limited topic like Snowman Photos or 2015 Seed Sowing can be in a reference section, and then perennial things like "Things You Do Want To See In Your Polytunnel" can be in a section of Useful Threads or somesuch

Takes a bit of effort to maintain ... but I think?? so does making a post sticky / unsticky.

Its easy to stick/unstick a thread but keeping everyone happy when you do so is not so easy
"Vegging Out" has the most Stuck threads and these are set up by Admin and will lead into articles in the magazine. We Moderators do not touch these unless they have clearly run their time.

Purple Cape Cauli - a poly tunnel variety



I know I stuck up a pick of this cauli the other week but I'm posting it again because I am really pleased with how well it is responding to the tunnel environment. I usually grow close and accept small and often quite open heads as per the All Year Round below. (Which is better looking than this, actually!)



When I posted the pic before I expected to be eating it quite soon before it got too open but it is still bulking up so I'm leaving it to see just how gig it will get. The caulis were all sown last September.

I will keep saying it but you've never tasted cauliflower until you've eaten one grown under cover.

Loving this thread! I've just a little bit of tidying to finish off today in my tunnel (hubby has been using it to store wood for the beds whilst it's been empty, cheeky blighter!!!) then I want to fork it to a fine tilth (shouldn't take much work as it's gorgeous soil) and then I'm going to plan out what I want to grow (it's not quite big enough for everything ). So far I know I'm going to have tomatoes, peppers, spring onions and carrots in there but I'm definitely tempted to try some cauliflower too.

It's my very first year EVER of growing veg so I'm really looking forward to this new adventure and learning curve

What a difference a few weeks makes I love my polytunnel SO much....even more than my greenhouse because THAT is prone to getting far too hot for plants!

View taken yesterday I think I'm going to have to transplant some of those calendula to beds outside as they've just went crazy in the heat and are infringing on my cucumbers which have finally started to shoot away. The plants in pots are going to put into containers outside too.

The view from the doors each end


So I did squeeze the excess numbers of tomatoes in and even sowed a few more - Maskota.

Undersown with lettuce and cat baskets.


The Stupice are just coming in to fruit





In the main bed there are two cucumbers growing under the tomatoes.

I've just moved all the strawberries (pots and trays) outside so it looks a bit bare and the fluffing peppers and chillies aren't doing much!

The broccoli was outstanding - very nearly had too much.



Half a dozen French beans and half a dozen borlotties have given us some great early meals - I can only guess when the garden ones will trip in. This is the borlotties next to the Cape Gooseberry which blooming well made it through the winter again and is triffiding its way to occupying as much space as I'll let it. Also, a row of lettuce - transplanted yesterday. There's also a butternut squash growing in there,too, already got one fruit growing .



French beans - Redlands Dwarf - love it- next to a bay tree (�3 at a local fete I danced at) and my other butternut saqaush.

This is five corn plants which grew from one sowing (!!!!!!) which can't go outside as the ones out there are now different. (I bought those in as seedling from a reputable (Not T&M even) compnay and they were rubbish. It was two weeks delivery, well I don't think they put them in until I ordered them.) In front is some rocket which is making seeds and a Maskota in a bucket (The �1 kind with drainage holes melted in.)

Finally, the thing that really makes me smile



and there are a couple of figs on the fig trees.

I do let lots of things flower and run to seed. There's cerinthe and marigolds flowering all the time. I let this leek go because the heads are just amazing.



Edit:- just got back in from watering and realised I'd forgotten to mention the garlic which spent its whole life in the tunnel in buckets this year and is now up drying alongside the onions.
