Considering this GH

Hi guys am considering this GH or either of the 10*8 or even 12*8.

The reason for going polycarb is simple i am the proud owner of two headcase german shepherds that love nothing better than chasing round the garden and running into anything and everything that gets in their way .

But i have a question....the 10*6 is looking favourite simply because i think it would be easier to lay it out inside, by that i mean 2ft either side for plants and a 2ft path work space in the middle, but if i was to get the 8ft wide what sort of layout could i have to maximise plant growth. The GH will be in full sun in a south facing garden.

Getting the 8ft wide would simply maximize space for moving around once everything is in full growth - full size tomato plants really do encroach onto your central path no matter how much you try and train them and tie them up. It's something like a cross between a shimmy and belly-dancing trying to get to the far end of the greenhouse by August

Welcome to the vine Michael, the obvious answer is more growing space i.e 2 x 3' beds with a 2' path down the center. There are many threads on greenhouses & the concensors is to buy the biggest that you can afford or that will fit.

On the 10'X 8' you could still have the 2'0" path down the middle stopping short of the end by 2'0". This would give you three beds in total, 2 beds 3' X 8' and one bed on the end 2'X 8'.

As far as I can see ther are no piccies of the 10' X 6' greenhouse to give you an idea of scale?

I personally feel that the 8' wide versions are more aesthetically pleasing.................

Thanks guys i think 10*8 is probably the way to go, wonder how easy it would be to bolt a second GH onto this one just looking at the corner plates wonder if they would bolt together using longer bolts???

I want to grow toms, peppers sweet and chilli, cougettes melons and cucumbers(on a side note i never liked the taste of cucumbers until i grew some myself a couple of years ago in a blowaway that did eventually blowaway ) and still have room for my better half to grow her plants to fill the garden will post some pics of the garden to give an idea of where the GH is going.

With a larger greenhouse wouldn't you find the air temperature won't fluctuate quite the same?

( I'd go with the larger one too if you have the space- you'll kick yourself in years to come that you didn't

Bigmally eeerrmmmm just read your post to my wife and she says and i quote 'We cant put a 100ft * 20ft GH in the garden' bummer but yeah i kinda agree the biggest that we can fit makes sense

Snadger my wife agrees about the looks of 8ft wide she says it looks more balanced.

defo go for the 8ft wide if you have the room for it, had a 6ft one last year and could hardly get in it once everything was growing

AWWWWW pooh, now you've gone and done it Urban the 12*8 is only �4 more than the 10*8 my OH had agreed to let me have .

Question for you do these come with bracing bars?

As previously stated we could without any problem (other than cost) fit a 50+ft GH in the garden and still have lots of room which i would love but the OH wont entertain!!!!! cant imagine why :P

Buy it and don't say anything! Then after you've opened and start to assemble, play dumb r suggest they sent the wrong one

I have a Walton GH but only an 6x8. The main thing I liked about it was that the glazing panels slid into grooves cut into the frame. More difficult to assemble but a lot less likely to blow out. I also siliconed my panels and touch wood I have had it 3 years now with no problems.

Yes has 4 bracing bars at 45 degree angle, also in the eaves and right up at the top of roof they supplied bracing bars for there aswell, it is very sturdy, it will not budge if you push it

I'll try and get a picture posted, but not finding much spare time on 12hr night shifts

Oh and it's more like 12.5 * 8.4

Thanks Urban that would be cool, got a couple of weeks before we order. Need to prepare base, as long as it is braced then i dont think i will have a problem.

I like your idea chris..we had that happen before (not with GH) where we have ordered something and something better or the next model up has arrived OH likes that owt for nowt.........only flaw i can see is other half has access to this forum :O
