BillyOh GH roof vent leaks

I posted a few years ago while assembling this Greenhouse - their standard 8x6 version - but it persistently leaks through the vent and I can't find anyone else having the same problem,



If you look closely you'll see the top end doesn't lie flush with the roof frame when it's closed. From the inside there's a gap:



- which varies as the vent moves within the frame

Presumably I've assembled it incorrectly otherwise there would be loads of other similar compaints, can anyone help?

Can the lower pane slide down any further? Mine was the same, until I realised my lower pane of glass wasn't in correctly. My vent was also not exactly square - so I loosed the bolts off, until it fitted corrected, then tightened in situ..

Thanks Chris but my problem is that the top the frame (that slides along the GH eave) doesn't set down flush to the same level as the rest of the roof.

Enlarge my photo1 and you'll see there's a definite angle between the top of the vent an the roof supports...

If it'll help I'll try and take closer pics

Ahh I see.. Is it in the correct slot? I fed mine in incorrectly before I re-re-re-read () the instructions and noticed that it was wrong (same with my GH door - that was a nightmare). Can't tell from your photos, but my GH - the track is lipped so it's possible for it to be mis-inserted before you slide it down to the location (does that make sense?)

Is that the only vent on the GH, or is there another (and is that the same?)

I don't have the same GH as you, but I'd double check the instructions as half the time they're useless and easy to overlook things. I built mine wrong 3 times (door wise) - broke three screws in doing so too.

thanks, that's exactly the lateral thinking I'm looking for! but there's only one slot along each side of the ridge so no choice (and it's the only roof vent)

I also cut half an inch of each of the door glazing panels to make them fit

Can you swap the vent over to the other side easily enough? The track could be slightly off/bent the side that the vent is currently on..

That was along the lines of my thinking although I would probably have just said wrongly aligned.

Is it possible to disconnect the whole vent assembly from the frame of the greenhouse and then to lay it flush on the frame(upside down if needs be and then to see whether it can be re-attached in any way in that flush position? Dismantle the vent frame and reassemble if the part with the slidebar is perhaps upside down. If you need to, use washers or similar as spacers, then do so.

I apologise in advance if you have already tried these remedies.

If all else fails, get in touch with the manufacturer. They are normally very helpful.

I spent ages yesterday epoxy fixing 2" strips on top of the vent side bars to block the gap.

Very p1ssed off - heavy rain overnight and the GH is still flooded !!

I've belatedly realised the problem is that I must have incorrectly positioned the lateral roof strut, that the bottom of the vent rests on, because it's acting as a trough that fills up with downflow from the vent that then overflows inside.

I didn't have my camera with me but can anybody post a close-up pic of how that strut should be aligned?

Believe it or not I'm qualified in Aeronautical engineering - so just be grateful I didn't contribute to any current aircraft!

I'll take a pic of mine tomorrow morning, not sure how you'd have done that, unless it's different to mine? Mine is like angle iron I guess, just an 'L' shape strut, with a couple of open nut holes for slotting in.

Thanks very much chris - those are just what I needed and provides the answer as I can see from your pics 1 and 3 that the bottom of the vent overlaps the cross strut

Mine is definitely different to that! - I'll take some pics this PM.

Couldn't reply yesterday as i was getting setup for an earl;y start on Monday for a fortnight in Cuba = it's chucking down with rain there too!

It seems I've got to move the cross strut further up towards the ridge so the bottom of the vent overlaps it....agree?
