Tomatoes not ripening

I'm not sure whether I have a problem or not, but I have not had one ripe tomato this year. They seem to be remaining green, where as other people around me seem to be getting a good harvest.

Do I have a problem, or am I being impatient.

Mine are still green too. They will turn eventually.

I think mine are a bit on the slow side as well! I have managed to pick just 3 of my British Pink Sunrise so far, that was about a week ago had none ready since. I have about 3 lollipop toms just ready to pick and a couple of what I think are zebra type, not sure as these were from seeds saved from supermarket fruit I bought a couple of years ago.

looking at the Pink Sunrise plants yesterday they are just verry slightly past green now, I think I'm in for a glut of pink toms! I have a feeling they are all going to start to turn very soon now, all together I feel salsas and sauces coming for the freezer with them Yumm I'm still waiting on my Black Cherry and Cream Sausage. I remember from last year, the Cream Sausage were green for ages..took a while to go to that lovely pale creamy yellow when ripe! Still I'm sure everyones toms will ripen when they are ready,all in good time eh, each to their own!

It will depend on a lot of things, when they were planted, what variety, where they are now sited, what the weather was like when they were first planted out etc etc etc. As already said, they will come and once they start the others usually follow

It's all a waiting game! Nevermind, soon we will all be asking family and friends, do you want some tomatoes? I will never learn, I planted too many last year, not much less this year! Its because there are just way too many lovely toms to try!! smile This year I have gone more mad with chilli plants, I can perhaps see me supplying my local continental food shop with hot chillis! lol I might strike a deal with the owner see if I can do swaps with her for other produce! Just a thought if I get too many chillis at one go

I've only had a few from outdoor plants. The greenhouse does make all the difference.

My 100/1,000's plants outside have produced dozens of ripe fruit, the greenhouse toms all starting to turn now, some varieties turning much earlier than others, but as all before have said they will all turn. If you want to speed them up put some banana skins next to a truss or two.

does the banana skins work and if so will they not attract any thing unwanted do you hang them on the plant somewhere beside the plants or put round the base of the plant

I have a bush full of plum tomatoes, the majority at full size, i put banana skins around the base a week ago and also hung some onto branches higher up within the bush too. So far nothing doing.

The reason for bananas, not just banana skins helping to ripen tomatoes is the production of Ethylene. Ethylene is a hormone compound that all riping plants give off, particularly bananas, which in turn will cause other fruits around it to ripen. as Ethylene is colourless and odourless, there is no way, without expensive equipment, that you can tell how much ethylene a fruit is giving off
